Menopausal Vaginal Atrophy Treatment with the Microablative Fractional CO2 Laser
Vulvovaginal mucosal atrophy is seen in a good proportion of menopausal women, with symptoms such as decreased vaginal lubrication with resultant dryness, itchiness, dyspareunia and contact bleeding.
Treatment of the above problem with local or systemic therapies give little relief.
Using the well-proven ability of the pulsed fractional CO2 laser for mucosal regeneration, a significant clinically appreciated thickening of the mucosa and collagen synthesis is noted in the vagina.
The Pentagon grand Ultra-pulse CO2 fractional laser is used for three treatments at six weekly intervals. No anaesthesia is required for the treatment, with each session taking approximately 15 minutes.
A recent Pap smear is a requirement and recovery takes about two weeks with some vaginal discharge needing the use of pads.
The treatment is now available at the Plastic Cosmetic Laser Surgery Centre.
