The eyes, \u201cthe windows to the soul\u201d, reflect\u00a0emotions and are often the best features of the\u00a0face.<\/p>\n

Droopy Eyelids<\/p>\n

Aging and its attendant problems and effects, causes slackness and a resultant drooping of eyelid skin. This is seen early in eyelid skin, due to its thinness, as well as the effects of gravity, and results in a puffy, droopy appearance. Those affected are aware of the problem and are not helped by frequent, solicitous remarks by many around them about the \u2018tired, lack of sleep\u2019 look and advice \u201cto sleep and rest more\u201d.<\/p>\n

The treatment<\/p>\n

The emphasis of treatment is on restoration and a\u00a0natural but bright eyed and fresh appearance.\u00a0Upper lid surgery involves the removal of\u00a0stretched skin and muscle and, when appropriate,\u00a0the reduction of eyelid fat.<\/p>\n

Lower eyelid surgery is focused more on\u00a0surgically tightening the lid and improving skin\u00a0quality with the use of a carbon dioxide laser.\u00a0Excess fat is often removed thru a\u00a0transconjunctival approach ( from within the eyelid )\u00a0and with no visible external scar.<\/p>\n

Skin removal is hardly done, in order to avoid\u00a0long-term problems with downward displacement\u00a0of the eyelid.<\/p>\n

The surgery is done under sedation and local\u00a0anaesthesia (\u2018twilight\u2019 anaesthesia) and is a day\u00a0procedure. Recovery is rapid and involves mainly\u00a0rest and cold compresses. The surgery is\u00a0intrinsically safe and has very few risks involved.<\/p>\n
